Welcome to second edition of weekly newsletter. Before we get started, I want to thank all the readers for the feedback, support and encouragement. Please keep them coming! Without any further delay, let’s get started…
For second week in a row, there is only one place to start – Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). ISRO had multiple significant milestones for ongoing Chandrayaan 3 mission. It was followed by Saturday’s (September 2) successful launch of Aditya L1 mission to explore the Sun. Satellites would now travel for 125 days to cover distance of 1.5 million (15 lakh) kilometers (930K miles) and reach desired orbit.
Chandrayaan 3 has achieved some incredible success already –
- Pragyan rover has now travelled more than 100 meters on Lunar surface on the south pole.
- It has discovered 10 different elements on Lunar surface so far. Some of the findings are –
- Sulphur
- Aluminium
- Calcium
- Iron
- Chromium
- Titanium
- Manganese
- Silicon
- Oxygen
- Pragyan Rover has now been put in sleep mode for 14 days to overlap with next sunrise that would occur on the Moon. Fingers crossed for next phase of the mission!
Another Indian organization that is doing amazing work is National Payment Corporation of India (NCPI). In August 2023, NCPI’s real time payments platform UPI (Unified Payment Interface) reached incredible milestone of processing more than 10 billion transactions in a month. These transactions enabled money movement of more than 15 trillion (15 lakh crores) Indian Rupees (more than $200 billion). India now accounts for just over 46% of Real Time Payments transaction volume globally. Those who have been tracking UPI, know that UPI’s success is not an accident. The milestone of 10 billion transactions in a month was not a question of “if” but a question of “when”. With product roadmap and international expansion, UPI is going to be a significant player in world of payments for years to come…
While ISRO and NPCI are having their head held high, one Indian entity that should be asked some hard-hitting questions is BCCI. I am not sure BCCI really had to agree to play Pakistan in Asia Cup. I understand ICC has certain rules. But there shouldn’t be any sporting engagement with a country which is actively sponsoring terror and drugs mess in India. Hope better sense would prevail before finalizing future commitments…
That’s it for this week. See you soon!
